Gariggue coffee table designed by Roger Capron

Designed by Roger Capron and manufactured by Vallauris – France, 1960’s

A stained solid oak base with a top made of finely crafted earthenware ceramic tiles imprinted with the fossils of various plant specimens. Garrigue refers to the vegetation that grows wild on the limestone hills of the Mediterranean coast, such as juniper, thyme, rosemary and lavender. The garrigue tiles were an innovation of Mr. Capron, made by pressing plants native to Southern France into the wet clay, then loading them into the kiln, whereby the plants burn away, leaving a beautifully detailed charred imprint.

This table is in a very good vintage condition and is hand-signed by Roger Capron.
